What have you been up to recently?
I have been travelling with my family in New Zealand, enjoying seeing the sights of North Island, hiking and exploring and enjoying the wonderful scenery and outdoor lifestyle.
How long have you been a Pilates teacher and what inspired you to become one?
I have been a Pilates teacher for 9 years. I first tried Pilates with my mum and dad and went on to study Human Movement Science at the University of Pretoria. As part of the course I was offered the chance to do my Mat course with BASI and I have been in love with all things Pilates ever since.
What’s your favourite Pilates exercise? Why?
The Pelvic Curl. This exercise can be cued to feel every single part of the body with such intensity.
If Joe Pilates was still alive, what would you ask him?
What do you think about Pilates in 2018 and what would you change? And please can you give me a Pilates class?
What are your top three tips for clients and students for progressing their Pilates practice?
- Go and experience as many different teachers as you can
- Apply the Pilates principles to your everyday life
- As a teacher, practice what you preach!
Describe your teaching style in less than ten words
I am very tactile with my cueing, I like to feel muscles activate and like to help the client feel the intensity of each fundamental exercise.
Where are your three favourite places in the world?
- Cape Town, South Africa
- Milford Sound, South Island, New Zealand
What are the top three things on your bucket list?
- Experience Japan
- Backpack Latin America
- Live in New Zealand
Tell us about someone who inspires you
My parents, because they have been an incredible influence in making me appreciate how to be positive and live life to the full.
When you’re not teaching what do you do for kicks?
I love doing HIITS, running, travelling and trying out different food and restaurants.
Tell us one last thing we might not know about you
I am obsessed with all things food and am happiest in the kitchen, creating delicious, healthy meals.
