Live & Breathe Pilates are excited to announce we are now the distributor in Ireland for
PowerFingers.
What is PowerFingers?
PowerFingers allows you to effectively train the hand, wrist, forearm and elbow to improve strength and dexterity, and to both prevent and recover from injury.
Many sports like golf, archery, CrossFit, climbing, kettlebell sports, gymnastics, rowing etc all use the fingers to grip, squeeze or hold, and involve tendons and muscle groups right up and into the elbow and scapula. Grip strength is an important part of training. Athletes know that if you can’t hold, grip, crimp, squeeze, pinch, or lift with your hands, your training will be limited.
Imbalance in the arm muscles can also lead to injuries such as elbow tendonitis, carpal tunnel and repetitive strain issues. PowerFingers can help by reducing pain and in some instances, eradicating these conditions.
PowerFingers brings the muscles of the forearm back into balance by strengthening the extensors of the wrist and forearm, as well as improving grip strength and mobility in this area.
This patented product is latex free and is crafted from carefully selected silicone and moulded into a circular shape. PowerFingers comes in a clamshell case of 5 colours, increasing from white to dark purple in tandem with the tension and resistance strengths, increasing as you move from the lighter colours to the darker ones.
Why use PowerFingers?
Our hands are essential in so many everyday tasks and yet many of us lack strength in our wrists, or struggle with taking the lid off a new jar of jam, even gripping a heavy bag. Pilates and yoga classes are full of people who are not comfortable weight-bearing on their wrists.
PowerFingers allows you to effectively train the hand, wrist and forearm to improve strength and dexterity, and to both prevent and recover from injury. PowerFingers brings the muscles of the forearm back into balance by strengthen the extensors of the wrist as well as improving grip strength.
Equality of Muscle Strength and Muscle Length
Our bodies adapt to the environment we put them in / use them for. It is important to understand that performing any unidirectional movement pattern on a constant basis, whether static or repetitious in nature, can cause muscle imbalances throughout the entire upper extremity, affecting the fingers, hands, wrists, forearms, elbows, upper arms and shoulders, but these imbalances can be corrected with an appropriate training program. This applies to our whole body.
These activities could include playing an instrument such as the guitar or piano, typing on a keyboard, gaming or sports such as climbing, golf, archery, bowling etc.
The most effective treatment to eliminate muscle imbalance in the wrist and forearm is to stretch and lengthen the flexor muscles; and strengthen and shorten the extensor muscles, creating equality of length and strength of the muscles within and around the carpal tunnel. This in turn stabilizes the carpal bones in their proper position, keeping them from collapsing into the carpal tunnel. This is something PowerFingers are designed for.
