Meet our visiting instructor…Lisa Lamberti

This is part of our Meet Our Visiting Instructor Series where you get to read about some of the visiting teachers and educators to our studio.

Meet Lisa Lamberti, head of BASI Pilates UK, BASI Pilates Faculty and EducatorLisa Lamberti and owner of The Pilates Clinic in Wimbledon, London.

Lisa teaches on our BASI Comprehensive and Mat Teacher Training Courses, as well as providing regular workshops and events hosted in our studio here in Dublin.

What have you been up to recently?

Juggling life, enjoying Christmas parties, and lots of cuddling my kids!!

How long have you been a Pilates teacher and what inspired you to become one?

Since 2000, so coming up 18 years now. I first found out about Pilates through the Oprah show (I know, shameful), and then found it to help with all my running injuries and my postural dysfunction caused by a broken tibia at age 5. I was sold right from the start!

What’s your favourite Pilates exercise? Why?

Teaser or anything really challenging… why? because I am not great at them, so when I practice and practice and then achieve them in the good moments, there is nothing more satisfying and encouraging.

If Joe Pilates was still alive, what would you ask him?

Hey Joe, how are we doing? Are we on track? Do you approve? Do you secretly love BASI the most? (tee hee!)

What are your top three tips for clients and students for progressing their Pilates practice?

1. Keep practicing, practice, practice, practice
2. Keep being taught by someone more experienced than you
3. Keep your chin up, we ALL have bad days, don’t get despondent

Describe your teaching style in less than ten words

I love people + I love Pilates = intuitive compassion.

Where are your three favourite places in the world?

  • Portugal
  • South Africa
  • The UK

What are the top three things on your bucket list?

This is always my toughest question. I ticked off a lot of things in my younger wilder years, so now I don’t really have a list. I am quite content with mundane 🙂

At the moment I am trying to make sure my two children make it to adulthood alive and equipped for the onslaught of the real world, while also trying to keep my passion for my Pilates business alive and well.

Tell us about someone who inspires you

I am not inspired by just one single person, but generally by Women. I think women rock, and find so much to be inspired by in each one I meet.

Being South African though, I was very inspired by the humility and grace shown by Nelson Mandela, and I think of those lessons often.

When you’re not teaching what do you do for kicks?

I like to hang out with family and have time that is unscheduled, leaving room for spontaneous last minute fun.

Tell us one last thing we might not know about you

I am an open book mostly, and wear my heart on my sleeve too much, so there is nothing I can think of that would surprise anyone :-)…. or maybe there is …. I am a Jesus lover, that might surprise some 😉

Lisa is back with us in Dublin multiple times in 2018 to talk about BASI Courses as well as teaching some of the modules of our BASI Mat and Comprehensive Teacher Training Courses.
